ACTIVE OPTICAL SENSORS TO DEVELOP NITROGEN FERTILIZER RECOMMENDATIONS FOR POTATO CROP

This study was performed to determine whether active optical sensors could develop an algorithm for N recommendation the potato crop (Solanum tuberosum L.). The experiment conducted in Maine State, (USA) during growing season of 2018-2019. Six rates (0-280 kg ha-1) were applied on eleven locations under a randomized complete block design (RCBD), with four replications. Data normalized difference vegetation index-(NDVI) collected via sensors, GreenSeeker-(GS), and Crop Circle-(CC). Sensors measurements at 20th leaf stage significantly associated tuber yield, where exponential model exhibited better fit regression curve. Conventionally, 168 ha-1 produced maximum yield. rate computed based in-season reading reduced by about 12-14% from total that growers use apply conventional approach. Studying cultivars separately same soil properties can improve accurately.
